Olivia Kristin Pett

For everyone who wants to know here is Olivia's birth story.  I really wanted to be induced at 39 weeks.  I was with Owen and everything was great.  If my labor is planned Ryan would be around,  I wouldn't  have to worry about going into labor somewhere, I could get an epidural right away, and Alyssa was around to watch Owen.  Since I had a family practice doctor and not an OB they can't induce you tell 40 weeks.  At 38 weeks I was dilated to a 4 so when I went in at 39 weeks they stripped my membranes to see if that would get labor going.  I don't know if it worked or not 6 days later I went into labor.  At my last doctors appointment we set up an induction for 40 weeks and my doctor told me he was going to be gone over the weekend so if I went into labor whoever was on call would deliver the  baby.  The nurse told me Dr. Neilson was on call.  I know him he is in my ward.  I was determined to make it through the weekend and be induced next week.

So on Saturday we took Alyssa to the lake and Crazy Horse.  I felt fine we came home made lunch and put Owen down for a nap.  I even text my mother in law that I was fine and didn't feel anything.  The next thing I know I have a really bad cramp and Alyssa and Ryan are telling me I'm in labor.  I said no I'm not.  I always get cramps this time of day.  Then 2 minutes later I have another one so we go to the hospital.  I can barely walk and I crawl into a wheel chair.  After we get checked in the nurse tries to weigh me and as I stand up my water breaks.  Most people have just a constant trickle of water but mine comes flowing out all at once like in a movie.  They say oh let's switch you rooms and I ask for an epidural.

The nurse has to check me first.  She tells me I'm dilated to a 9 and there is no time for an epidural.  3 doctors and like 5 nurse are trying to get me all hooked up.  I have Group B Strep so I'm suppose to be on antibiotics for 4 hours before my water breaks.  Well that didn't happen.  At some point they give me so Fental which Ryan clams will help.  I trusted him since he is a pharmacist, not sure I will ever trust his judgment on pain medication again.  So I start pushing thinking it will be over soon Olivia had other plans.  She was sunny side up and sideways coming out not to mention 9lbs 1oz.  It took me an hour and a half of pushing with no drugs.  At the end I started praying for her to come out that I couldn't take it anymore.  Heavenly Father must of heard that prayer because shortly after she was born.

She was 9 lbs. 1oz and 21 inches long.  She was born on June 7 2014 at 5:01pm.  A day early.
She made it!
I felt bad, whooping cough was going around so Owen wasn't allowed to visit the hospital and I had to stay an extra day because of the Group B Strep.  A few days with no mom just an Aunt and Dad.  When we came home Owen had no desire to hold her.  He just wants to hold her blankets.

He is not holding his arms out to hold her.  He is pushing her away

Anyways we are doing well.  Ryan spent a lot of his paternity leave packing.  Most of our stuff is gone since in a week we are moving to WA.

She is such a sleepy head

Road trip part 3 Chicago

First on our itinerary in Chicago was the The Museum of Science and Technology.  Owen loves the Science Museum in Phoenix so I figured this one would be fun too.  It wasn't as hands on as I thought it would be but there was one room for kids 10 and younger that he loved.

Driving a tractor is his favorite thing to do.

Pump up the bubbles then look through the tube

Magnets and Tractors!

After the musuem we wandered around looking for the bean.  Owen feel asleep poor kid it looks so uncomfortable.

The highlight of the trip for Owen was the Children's Museum in Chicago.  A building full of toys what more could a toddler ask for. It was also free for military so we were happy.

That evening we went to the White Soxs game.  There were lots of home runs and fireworks that Owen loved.  They also give the military free seats.  YEA!!!

Last stop was the Willis Tower.  Owen was kinda bored he needed toys.  After this Ryan had a meeting so Owen and I could go rest and play at the hotel.

Road trip part 2 Minneapolis

The first thing we did when we got to Minneapolis is go to the mall of America.  I figured Owen would actually eat there since I could get him a slice of pizza and Ryan and I could get whatever we wanted.  Wrong as soon as we got there he saw Nickelodeon World and all he wanted to do was ride the rides.  He settled for going to the Lego store and playing with Lego's then screamed while Ryan and I ate.  Then we took him on one ride and  went to the hotel pool.

The next morning we got Owen a day pass to Nickelodeon World.  There were about 10 rides he could do but he required a chaperone because he wasn't tall enough.   So Ryan and I could take turns going with him.  I let Ryan test out the ride first to make sure it wasn't to jerky for a pregnant lady.

Owens favorite ride!

After a couple of hours we tried to go home and take a nap.  Owen watched TV while Ryan and I slept.  Then we headed to the sculpture gardens.   It was so nice and peaceful a perfect way to end the day after the over stimulation of the Mall.

Well I checked the Twins schedule and found out their home opener was going to be on our last day in Minneapolis.  We went to the zoo in the morning and came back for nap time.  However Owen does not sleep well unless he is in his own bed so it turned into rest time.  As we got to the baseball stadium Owen fell asleep.  I guess Ryan's prayers were answered since he slept tell the bottom of the first and was happy tell about the 7th inning stretch.
Just keep sleeping

Time for a long drive to Chicago.  Wish us luck!

Road trip part 1 Sioux Falls

Our family vacation this year was to go to Chicago for a meeting Ryan had.  He took the week before off and we stopped in Sioux Falls, and Minneapolis on our way to Chicago.  On our way to Sioux Falls we stopped at the Minute Man site.  We watched the video about the cold war.  Then got to tour the site where they held the missiles during the cold war.  Owen and I just saw where they lived but Ryan got to go down and see where they could of launched the missiles.

When we made it to Sioux Falls we checked into the hotel and bribed Owen to get back into the car by saying we were going to the park.  He was so excited.  I told him this park didn't have slides but we could play ball.  Unfortunately it was also cold and I didn't have any mittens for him, so he pitched a fit the whole time and by the end was screaming since his hands were cold.

Time to go home!

The next morning we headed to Sertoma butterfly house.  They have an aquarium and a room full of butterfly's.

Owen loved going in here and looking at the fishes!

The butterflies were flying around us.

I'm touching a shark!

A snowy Mt. Rushmore

We had seen Mt Rushmore in the summer time.  If you go there you will here when you come back it will look different depending on the weather and the time of day you go.  I wanted to see it covered in snow.  I thought about going in November or December but we were to busy with the Holidays, Ryan having to work, or it  was to cold  and I didn't want to go outside.  As I was thinking about what to do this weekend I checked the weather and it was going to be snowing.  I decided this was our last chance to see Mt Rushmore in the snow.  In the morning it was snowing and I was a little worried about the roads so we decided not to go.  Then at about 11 Ryan says we could go now if you wanted.  I said Owen needs lunch and a nap.  If you want his nap to be ruined we can go.  Neither of us wanted that.  We like our break.  So at 3 when he woke up I said its now or never so we got a few snacks and our coats and headed out to the car.  It had started snowing again but we decided to try.  The roads were clear we had no problem.  Only a handful of people braved the snow with us.  While we were there we saw a herd of deer and a mountain goat.  By the end Owen was screaming because his hands were freezing, we felt bad we didn't bring mittens or hand warmers.  Hes a trooper to put up with all mine and Ryan's craziness.

Yes I"m wearing Ryans jacket because mine dosn't zip up anymore :(

The herd of sheep is behind the trees.  They were eating until they saw us then we had a stare down as Ryan took some pictures then Owen started talking and they ran away.

Moving

Well its that time of year when Ryan residency will be over in a few months and we have to find a job.  He is staying with the Indian Health Service and they told us to start looking in December.  We applied to a few  like Alaska, Kansas, and Washington.  Then when I took my trip to Arizona I told Ryan I wanted to go somewhere warm so he applied to a couple positions in Arizona.  During this time he kept saying what if Rapid City gets an opening.  I said if so great but we aren't going to sit around and wait plus I was nervous the winter here was really bad.  The 2 places in Arizona really liked him and were waiting for some paper work to go through so they could offer him the job.  Our parents were thrilled we would be moving back with a 2 grand kids.  Ryan kept telling me he didn't think we'd be coming back to Arizona so soon and he wasn't sure it was the right thing for us.  Plus he was hoping Rapid City would offer him a job so we wouldn't have to deal with moving right after having a baby.    I was like it will be fine.  Then 4 months later out of the blue Yakima Washington calls him for an interview.  They really liked him to.  We were torn.  Do we move back by family to a small town, or do we go on an adventure to Washington where the hours are better and the town is bigger.    I must say moving back to Arizona in the winter sounds like a good thing.  Would I feel the same in July?  Then Yakima calls him with a job offer.  He tells me he wants to take it and I said ok lets do it.  We both feel so excited and all our doubts leave us.  Rapid City tells him the job they are hiring for needs to be a supervisor, which at this point Ryan is not qualified for.  Knowing we cant stay makes it easier to leave and Ryan has some cousins and his Grandpa in the Olympia area a few hours away. The town is a lot bigger than the small town in Arizona we would move to.  It has a mall, Costco, and a bunch of fruit farms.  It's 2-3 hrs from Seattle, Portland, and Spokane.  All his fellow residence are jealous because they want to move to Yakima Washington.  We are just blessed since we started looking right when we were told to instead of procrastinating.

Girl

In case anyone doesn't know I'm 7 months pregnant and having a girl.  Its probably a good thing we are having a girl and not a boy because Owen likes girls more.  He was playing with some boys at the park then a girl shows up and he says girl girl and follows her around the rest of the time.  Anyways we don't have a name yet I guess its time I start trying a little harder since she will be here in a couple months.  She moves all around.  Owen was laying on my stomach and then he looks at me and says OW.  I guess the baby kicked him.  Since we've been talking about the baby in mamas belly whenever we see  something its either a mama or a baby.  Owen will be a great big brother after learning how to share mamas attention and when the baby will be old enough to play with him a little bit.
